Hi C,
I came to Portugal for the week for my grandma’s 86th birthday. You know how obsessed I am with her! I got to Portugal yesterday and I’m already having the time of my life! Yesterday at my grandma’s house, I ate real food. We had delicious ameijoas à bulhão pato!!, scrambled eggs with mushrooms, meat with rice, and oranges with kiwi!
For dinner, we went to this amazing place called Banu. Not only was it great to be reunited with my immediate family but having Portuguese cuisine after so many months felt so good. For starters, I had sooooo much bread and butter!! hahaha the bread here is so good. I also had queijo fresco and it amazes me that it’s so simple yet I can’t find it in the US!
It drives me crazy! For the main course, I shared lombo with my cousin. I love how in Portugal when you order meat most of the time, it comes with French fries and rice. Yummmmy!
For dessert, I ordered the Smarties ice cream cup (hahaha typical), my cousin had the lemon sorbet, and my other cousin baba de camelo.
Tomorrow I am waking up early in the morning and starting a three day adventure to Beja, Alqueva and Évora. Can’t wait to tell you all about it!!
Xoxo,
– K
